| Update:
Teens for Change is sadly, running into a dead end.
It seems that filing for non-profit will cost a lot of money, for a lawyer or accountant to do it, and then probably an accountant or tax consultant to keep it up.
Also, in 7 months I will not be a teen anymore, nor will I have the time or resources to keep this organization standing. I don't plan on living in Bartlesville for very much longer. Additionally, nobody has expressed interest in taking over my position. So here's the deal.
We are still having our benefit garage sale, since we are behind funds for our project by 2 or 3 hundred dollars. So, we still need your extra things, books, donations, etc! Especially needed are bigger ticketing items such as furniture or electronics, if you have any that you would like to give away.
We are definately completing our current project next summer. We need to build a shed and do the walls. I drafted a letter to Habitat for Humanity, so hopefully we will not have to hire adult help for these two projects. However we could use our wonderful TFC volunteers, and your parents if possible, with these projects. We will keep you updated on which days we are doing it. Hopefully we will spread it over 3 Saturdays in the summer.
Meanwhile, I am going to try to merge TFC with a church group or another non-profit organization. Any leftover funds will be transferred to this group as a kind of "starter" profit, and then they can take over everything. I will give them the mailing list as well. That way, all of you can still donate your time and efforts (and I will too, when I am in town) to this great organization, but we will have a larger base organization with a deeper-rooted standing in the community and can provide more volunteers.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, etc, please! E-mail me at bvilleteenforchange@yahoo.com.

| An update:
In order to grow and mature as an organization, it is important to become a registered non-profit. We are going to talk to a tax representative to see how much this would cost and what amount of time it would take.
By becoming a non-profit, we will be able to have a bank account in the name Bartlesville Teens for Change, rather than the officers. This will help us gain the trust of our community.
We will also be able to provide tax benefits to all of our donors, and may or may not be tax exempt on expenses, which would be a great help when it comes to buying supplies.
We will be eligable for receiving much more donations and may be able to apply for donations from places that gather and distribute wealth to nonprofits.
Again, we have not talked to a tax rep/lawyer yet, so we can't make promises or give details. But this is a main priority in the coming months. We will keep you updated.
Thanks!!

| Welcome to the new xanga for Bartlesville's Teens for Change! You can get all the updates here, all the news, and all the information for current members and curious folks.
We are a volunteer, student-run organization that helps the less fortunate for their home-renovating needs. During the school year we fundraise and raise awareness to gain membership, and during the summer we do the work!
Currently, we are trying to get some new, younger members! If you are interested, feel free to leave questions, comments, or email us at bvilleteensforchange@yahoo.com. | | |
